Diver-Mate

Self supporting reading and storage unit that connects directly to a DDC Cable. Data is read out and saved automatically in the unit's memory upon connection.

Data is saved on a 1 GB memory card supplied with the Diver-Mate. Data can be transferred to your computer either by placing the memory card in your PC's card reader, or directly bt connecting the Diver-Mate directly to your PC through a USB A —> mini-USB B 5 cable (Diver-Mate accessory). When the Diver-Mate is connected by cable, it's internal battery will be charged through the USB cable.

Knowing the Diver-Mate

Diver-Mate Parts

The Diver-Mate has 3 parts:

  • main body
  • cap
  • memory card

The USB A â€”> mini-USB B cable is an accessory of the Diver-Mate.

Diver-Mate Display

Two sets of 4 LED's (lights), one set on each side of the main body, indicate the status  and operation of the Diver-Mate. The functions of these LED's are indicated below.

  • Red LED 1: Low battery indicator (BAT LOW)
  • Red LED 2: Error downloading Diver Data (ERROR)
  • Green LED: Finished downloading Diver data (OK)
  • Yellow LED: Busy downloading Diver Data (DATA)

The cap can be removed from the main body. This will allow the connection of the USB cable and removal of the miniSD card. Under the cap are two more LED's. The functions of these LED's are indicated in the figure below.

  • Red LED: Battery charging (CHARGE)
  • Yellow LED: Connection to PC (BUS)

Using the Diver-Mate

Charging the Diver-Mate

  • Connect the Diver-Mate to a PC using the supplied USB-cable.
  • It takes approximately 9 hours to charge a completely empty battery

Downloading data from the Diver to the Diver-Mate

  • Connect the Diver-Mate to the Diver Data Cable (DDC). The Diver-Mate will recognize it is connected to a DDC and will start reading the data (yellow DATA LED blinks). If no Diver is connected to the DDC the red error LED will light up after approx 10 seconds. Disconnecting the Diver-Mate from the DDC will stop the yellow LED from blinking and will also stop the data download.
  • The green LED (OK) is turned on when the download is successfully completed.
  • The red LED (ERROR Light) will illuminatewhen:
    • an error occurrs during data download or
    • the Diver-Mate is disconnected during reading or
    • no Diver is connected to the DDC or
    • the miniSD card is not inserted in theDiver-Mate

Downloading data from the Diver-Mate to the PC

  • Remove the cap
  • Insert the miniSD card into a card-reader or alternatively connect the Diver-Mate with a PC using the USB cable. The connected miniSD card or the DiverMate will act as a USB-memory stick. If the Diver-Mate is connected to a PC the yellow LED (BUS) will be turned on. This indicates that the PC has recognized the unit as a portable disk.
  • Use Diver-Office to manage the data on the Diver-Mate. The data can easily be copied to your PC, deleted from the Diver-Mate if desired and exported to MON or CSV files if indicated. For more details please see the manual and the help function of Diver-Office.
  • Alternatively Windows Explorer can be used to copy the stored DAT files anywhere on your PC.

Data Storage

Storing data on the SD Card

The Diver data is stored on a miniSD memory-card which is provided with the Diver-Mate. The data is stored in the format "serial number-xx.DAT" using the serial-number of the Diver (serialnumber = 5 characters) and a sequence number (xx = 01 to 99) as file name. The extension is DAT (example: 12767-01.DAT). In case there is already data from one particular Diver on the card, the newly generated file will have a higher sequence number. The newly generated sequence number will always be higher than the highest found corresponding serial- number.

If data was not properly downloaded it will be stored in the format "serial-number-xx.ERR" (example 32196-01.ERR).

The supplied SD card can store more than 1,000 Diver (full memory) downloads. Once the SD card is full data can be deleted, as with a normal USB-memory stick, through a file accessing software.

Battery

With a fully charged battery many Divers can be read (approx. 500 Divers with full memory). The battery is charged when connected to the PC with the USB cable. The red LED (CHARGE) next to the mini USB-connector indicates charging. When the red LED turns off the battery is fully charged.

FAQ

Q: New Diver-Mate battery doesn't charge correctly

A: The Diver-Mate has an internal rechargeable NiMH battery with a battery charge mechanism using a USB connection. This charge mechanism has a detection method to recognize fully charged battery. When this mechanism detects a fully charge battery the Diver-Mate stops charging (charge led goes off). Sometimes this mechanism doesn't work correctly when the battery is new (a new Diver-Mate). In this case the Diver-Mate detects a fully charged battery when the battery is still empty (or not fully charged). It is necessary to unplug and plug the USB connection several times after the charge led turns off too quickly and until the charge led stays on for more than 30 minutes.
