ABOUT SESOIL |
|
SESOIL is commonly used by the EPA as a screening tool in
performing exposure assessments and for analyzing and prioritizing chemical
exposures at contaminated sites. SESOIL has also been applied in risk
assessments for estimating the potential impacts of surface spills on
underlying aquifers.
Model
Details
|
- Multi-layer profile (maximum of four layers)
- Heterogeneous soil properties (for transport parameters only)
- Depth variable and time variable initial concentrations
- Time-variant flow boundary conditions (atmospheric boundary condition)
- Automatic generation of up to 100 years of weather data
- Built-in database of soil parameters and chemical properties
Simulated Processes
|
- Hydrologic cycle of the unsaturated soil zone
- Pollutant fate processes including volatilization, adsorption, cation
exchange, biodegradation, hydrolysis and complexation
- Pollutant concentrations and masses in water, soil and air phases
- Pollutant migration to groundwater
- Pollutant volatilization at the ground surface
- Pollutant transport in washload due to surface runoff and erosion at
the ground surface
Simulation Results
|
|
SESOIL creates an output file containing monthly results for each layer
and sub-layer of the model including:
|
- Hydrologic cycle components
- Pollutant mass distribution adsorbed on the soil
- Pollutant concentration distribution in soil moisture
- Pollutant concentration distribution in soil vapor
