Project and Data Management
Hydro GeoAnalyst is the ideal groundwater software tool for the technical management of your hydrogeological investigations.  Design the data structure, borehole log templates, and reporting styles that YOU want.  Add or remove tables and fields, design an unlimited number of lookup tables and soil specifications, and export modified database structures and templates for use in all your groundwater projects.

Unlike other similar database solutions, Hydro GeoAnalyst enables you to expand the scope, size, and structure of your database at any point in the project, a major limitation found with other similar database solutions, and is applicable for projects with data sets ranging from 4 to 4000 wells.

Hydro GeoAnalyst provides the following features:

  • Manage all project properties, client and personnel information (project name, client name, address, email, telephone, photo, company logo, etc.).
  • Specify user-access rights for managers and project personnel
  • Choose from a wide range of coordinate systems during or after project setup (UTM, Geographic, State Planar, and many other country-specific formats)
  • Connect to SQL Express or SQL Server databases over your local (LAN) or wide area network (WAN)

List Editor

The List Editor allows you to create helpful look-up lists for any database field within Hydro GeoAnalyst, reducing the number of typo/errors typically encountered with manual data entry.

Create visual lookup items using graphics for items such as annual fill, well casings, rock or soil colors.  Additionally, the List Editor allows importing of look-up list items from external sources such as Comma separated (CSV) files, Excel Spreadsheets (XLS), MS Access databases (MDB), Any other ODBC or OLEDB data sources.

Query Builder
The integrated Query Builder allows you to quickly assess your data by enabling you to design and execute simple or complex SQL Statements.

Use the results of your queries as the basis for map layers, graphs or cross-tab queries.  Quickly assess standard hydrogeological questions or data visualization requirements such as mapping all boreholes deeper than a specified depth, mapping pumping wells with pump rates greater at any given value, reporting groundwater/soil concentrations, identifying stations with chemical concentration exceedances.

The Query Builder provides the following features:

  • Save any SQL Statement for use on future projects requiring similar queries
  • Generate quick statistics from your queries (e.g. AVG, COUNT, MAX, MIN, STDEV, STDEVP, SUM, VAR, VARP)
  • SQL View/Preview panel ensures SQL Statements match user definitions
  • Automatic validation of SQL statements provides warning for incorrect syntax
  • Logical use of expressions and operations make data querying easy (e.g. >, >=, <=, <, =, < >, !=, !<, !>, LIKE, IS, IS NOT, BETWEEN, &, !)
  • Edit/modify SQL Statements directly within the SQL Preview panel

Cross-Section Editor
Interpreting and visualizing borehole data is a crucial step in understanding the subsurface regime.  The Cross-Section Editor is designed with easy-to-use tools for interpreting your subsurface data.

The Cross-Section Editor is seamlessly integrated with the Map Manager so you can view and edit your cross-section lines directly on your maps, as well as the 3D-Explorer, a tool that enables you to display one or more cross-sections in a 3D fence diagram view.

The Cross-Section Editor allows for three types of data interpretation:

  1. Geologic Interpretations: layers representing unique geologic formations at the site
  2. Hydrogeologic Interpretations: layers representing hydrogeologic properties at the site (aquifer, confined aquifer, aquitard, aquiclude, etc)
  3. Model Interpretations: defined layers used in groundwater modeling.  Generating model layer point information for use in numerical modeling packages such as Visual MODFLOW

The Cross-Section Editor provides the following features:

  • Automatic display of screened intervals, water table elevations, lithologic data, and borehole log plots (including geophysical or concentration profiles) on cross-sections
  • Select standard or customized cross-section fill patterns from the Geology Layer Pattern tool
  • Display the locations of intersecting layers and/or cross sections
  • Dynamically view the location of boreholes in the Map Preview
  • Send cross-sections to the Report Editor to produced professional reports, export interpretations as image files, or copy cross-sections directly to the clipboard

Borehole Log Plotter
Select one of our pre-defined borehole log templates or design your ideal template from scratch and generate borehole logs quickly and efficiently for all boreholes in your project.  Automated data links mean the most current data is read directly from the database every time to view your logs, reducing the need for user intervention.

Borehole log plots can provide real-time data entry quality checking; view a well’s borehole log as you manually data into the database to help your interpretations, or within the Map Manager to help you understand the controls on the spatial distribution of your data.

The Borehole Log Plotter provides the following features:

  • Automatic display of well construction details, lithologic information, and water level data
  • Add charts to display depth-related data in the boreholes such as downhole geophysical profiles, contaminant concentration or PID readings, grain size, etc
  • Add or remove log columns for virtually any field in the database
  • Switch between log scale and normal scales when logging boreholes
  • Reference water level measurements to Top of Casing or ground surface elevations
  • Import/export final borehole log templates to exchange with other HGA users or projects
  • Generate professional log reports including logos and other custom fields
  • Export final borehole log reports to various formats (HTML, RTF, PDF, XLS, TIF, TXT)
  • Print multiple borehole logs as a group, or individually

Template Manager
The Template Manager is a built-in tool for managing the design of your database templates.  Using the Template Manager, you can refine your database structure by adding or deleting tables and fields, specifying table and field properties (e.g. primary keys, data types, etc.), and setting referential integrity constraints for your data.

Materials Specification Editor
With the Materials Specification Editor, you can quickly develop your own soils specifications palettes using a wide range of graphical file formats (JPG, BMP, GIF, ICO, WMF, EMF) or choose from a range of supported standards, including:
  • Unified Soil Classification System (USCS)
  • United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
  • Deutches Institut für Normung e.V. (DIN 4023)
  • International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH)

Data Transfer System - DTS
Hydro GeoAnalyst’s Data Transfer System (DTS) enables comprehensive importing of data from almost any format.  The easy, step-by-step process for importing your data means you can be working with the results in minutes.

The DTS provides the following features:

  • On-the-fly unit and coordinate system conversions during import and export
  • Seamless data validation and error checking during data import, with the option to accept or reject selected records during import
  • Saving each data transfer configuration for use again and again
  • Importing of data from the following file types: Comma separated (CSV) files, Microsoft ExcelTM spreadsheets (XLS), Microsoft AccessTM databases (MDB), LAS files, diver MON files, any other ODBC or
  • OLEDB data sources (DBF)
  • Importing analytical lab results (e.g. Electronic Data Deliverables - EDD's)

GIS Map Manager
The GIS Map Manager is fully integrated with the other features within Hydro GeoAnalyst, providing you with all the tools you need for analyzing and presenting the spatial orientation of your hydrogeological project data.

Since the Map Manager is built into Hydro GeoAnalyst, you can develop contour maps (elevations, concentrations, water table, etc.), thematic maps, and display tables or time series plots by station without having to first spend time re-entering or reformatting your data.

Contouring of project data such as water levels or contaminant concentrations is an effective method of analyzing the spatial distribution of data. The Map Manager contouring tool provides you with full control over which data are used to complete the contouring, allowing you to contour data in time, for specific geologic units, or for selected regions of your site.  Examples of contour applications include:

  • Water table elevations
  • Chemical concentrations
  • Layer surface elevations
  • Property distributions
  • Contour moisture distribution within unsaturated layers
  • Aquifer vulnerability indices
  • Levels of risk from a source point concentration

The GIS Map Manager enables thematic mapping for spatial display of the distribution of a single attribute/characteristic or the relationship between several attributes.  Options include pie graphs, bar charts, graduated polygon distributions, or the ability to assign various symbol styles to specific point values.  Thematic maps are useful for highlighting relationships between:

  • Wells with head elevations above or below ground surface (Artesian conditions)
  • Groundwater pumping volumes and precipitation (Recharge potential)
  • Layer thickness from ground surface to subsequent layers (Aggregate exploration)
  • Soil types (sand versus clay) and aquifer vulnerability to contamination
  • Graduated value polygons for land use or contaminant source inventories
  • Population density versus aquifer thickness

The GIS Map Manager provides the following features:

  • Effortlessly load query or station group data from any table within your project database
  • Display data in tabular or plot formats for selected stations on the map
  • Import/open a vast array of basemaps for your projects including: DEM and GRD files, Window Bitmap (BMP, DIB), JPEG (JPG), Tiff (TIF, TFF, TIFF), MrSID (SID), AutoCAD Files (DXF, DWG), shapefiles (SHP)
