Dear Partner!
Hopefully, everyone of you had a
pleasant holiday season, and you're back
at speed, looking for new
professional challenges this year.
For the
time being, we didn't have too much snow
here in Hungary, but there is plenty of
snow in the mountains surrounding the
country. This means that we may face a
challenging period during the spring in
terms of flood control. This is not an
easy challenge, so we would
like to draw your attention on two
pieces of software that we didn't talk
too much about so far. MIKE 11 and MIKE
SHE have proven track records in
hundreds of consultancy and
research
applications around the world, many of
these dealing with flood
risk assessment and alleviation design.

allow for a more detailed and more
accurate analysis. The user friendliness
of the program was also greatly
improved. Here is just a small sample of
the main improvements:
-
Extended exposure pathway options
- User
friendliness and flexibility
enhancements
-
Extended and updated chemical database
-
Expanded fate and transport models

In our
previous newsletter we mentioned about
the possibility to perform conjunctive
surface water groundwater modeling using
Visual MODFLOW Pro or Premium and MIKE
11. We would now like to draw your
attention on the MIKE Zero family of
models that is a suite of water
resources and hydrologic modeling tools.
MIKE Zero is composed of the following
programs: MIKE 11, MIKE SHE, MIKE Basin,
MIKE 21 C, MIKE Flood and a series of
utilities. These programs may be used as
independent models or in conjunction
depending on the complexity of the
modeling task.
MIKE 11 is an industry
standard for simulating flow and water level, water quality and sediment
transport in rivers, flood plains, irrigation canals, reservoirs and other
inland water bodies. Typical applications include:
- Flood risk analysis and alleviation
design;
- Real-time flood forecasting;
- Dam break analysis;
- Optimization of reservoir and canal gate
/ structure operations;
- Ecological and water quality assessments
in rivers, reservoirs and wetlands;
- Real-time water quality forecasting and
pollutant tracking;
- Sediment transport and river morphology;
- Salinity intrusion in rivers and
estuaries;
- Integrated surface water and groundwater
and water analysis
MIKE SHE is a dynamic, user-friendly
modeling tool that can simulate the entire land phase of the hydrologic cycle.
Typical applications include:
- Surface water impact from
groundwater withdrawal
- Conjunctive use of groundwater
and surface water
- Wetland management and
restoration
- River basin management and
planning
- Environmental impact
assessments
- Aquifer vulnerability mapping
with dynamic recharge and surface water boundaries
- Groundwater management
- Floodplain studies
- Impact studies for changes in
land use and climate
- Impact studies of agricultural
practices including irrigation, drainage and nutrient and pesticide management
with DAISY
These
two programs are useful tools either by
themselves or in conjunction. They share
the same user interface (MIKE Zero) that
also enhances their conjunctive use and
assures compatibility.
Our
website includes detailed descriptions
of each program. You may also download
from there (or from
from here) the demo versions, which
in fact are full featured evaluation
versions of the programs (some inherent
limitations are included in order to
avoid software piracy).
You may
look at the prices of the different
package versions and modules by
downloading the
MIKE 11 prices and the
MIKE SHE prices pdf files.

toilets(one drop per second is
equivalent with 10 m3 per
year).
-
Choose appliances that are water and
energy-efficient
-
Never por water down the drain when
there may be another use for it such
as water your indoor plants or garden
-
Don't run faucet when you're not using
the water, such as while brushing your
